Susan Gatlin from the Atlanta, GA area is a descendent of Isaac Morgan who was a brother of "our" Henry A. Morgan. She has done a lot of research into the Morgan ancestry and is the one who gave us the connection to Josiah and Matilda Morgan, parents of Henry and his siblings. I will just include the last 3 e-mails that have quite a bit of information about her branch of the Morgans and attempts to identify parents, or at least Mother, of Josiah Morgan.

Here is the picture of Amanda Morgan to which Susan refers. Amanda would be of the same generation as one of Henry's children (ex: Andrew Jackson, George Reese, Paralee, Matthew, etc)

I am currently in touch with a lady who's husband is the great-grandson
of Matthew Reese Morgan of DeKalb County, GA. This Matthew Reese was a son
of Charlotte Morgan of DeKalb Co. They do not know the name of the husband
of Charlotte. He apparently died between 1825 and 1830. Matthew Reese was
born on July 29, 1826. Charlotte was head of household in the 1830 census.
Matthew Reese Morgan went to the civil war and did not return, so was apparently killed. His wife did not file for a pension.
This lady's husband is planning on having the DNA testing done in the near future. She asked if I had a Morgan male that would have one done. I believe that I do have a distant cousin that might do the test, which would prove if Charlotte was Josiah's mother or not. If this man and my Morgan matched in the DNA we would know for sure. I am looking into this and considering if I want to ask anyone to do it. (I might have to pay for the test, in order to have it done, but it would be worth it to have a definite answer.)

I am sending a picture of Mandy Morgan. It is kind of interesting how I found this picture. Mandy was married 3 times. She had a daughter Fannie Mae Melvin, that married a Phillips, by the first husband. She had a daughter, Ruby Walker, by the second husband, that married a Staples. Then she was married to a Smith and they had no children.
I saw an obit in the Atlanta newspaper for Fannie Mae's husband. It was a really mixed up thing, but I was able to learn enough from it to trace Fannie Mae's daughter to Florida. The daughter had lived with her daughter on Ormond Beach, FL, and when I checked switchboard.com, there was the daughter at the same address that was on the death notice for her mother.
I wrote the daughter and she called me. She received my letter on her 70th birthday, and thought that might be significant. We have called each other back and forth since then, and talk as if we have known each other forever. She was born in Atlanta, lived for several years in Steep Falls, Maine, then moved to Ormond Beach, FL, where she has lived for the past 32 years.
I had an uncle, Hulett Morgan, that was in the Seabees in WWII. She has a picture of him!! She said that he spent a few days in their home in Maine when he was in service. (And I never heard about that!!). She said he was handsome, and had a great sense of humor, kept them laughing. She said that she had a crush on him, even though she was just a little girl then.
He really put us in "touch" with each other years after his death, made us feel real family. He was the favorite uncle of all his nieces and nephew. He was married twice, but never had any children. He would have made a wonderful father.
This lady is the one that had the picture of Mandy. We are uncertain which husband is on the picture with Mandy, but the Walker would make the most sense. He was listed as Papa on the picture, so we think that would eliminate the Smith, and Mandy looks older than she would have if it had been the first husband, Charles Melvin. If it is the Walker, I think he may have been a brother to my great grandfather Walker, I do not have good solid proof as yet, but have found enough to make me think that is who she married the second time.
So all I can say now is that is Mandy and one of her husbands. I have certainly been able to tell from all of the old pictures that my ancestors were definitely not wealthy.
I also located a relative that is a great granddaughter of Sarah Frances "Fannie" Morgan, sister to Mandy, that is trying to locate a picture of "Fannie". I believe that there should be one somewhere in the family. From the "build" of Isaac's children, I would think that their mother must have been a short, heavyset person. Isaac was described as being 6 feet tall on his military record. I have met some Hueys and the ladies are of the shorter variety and not real slim.
As to the DNA test. They can only do the test on Males with the surname of Morgan. There are certain markers on their DNA that are passed down from male to male through each generation. I have the price on all of the tests. The 12 marker is $99.00, the 25 marker is $169.00, and the 37 marker test is $229.00. The 25 marker is highly recommended.
To read more about the project or to order the test kit, go to the website at:
http://www.small-stuff.com/MORGAN
There is a Morgan relative that lives in Carrollton, that I think would be willing to donate his DNA if I pay for the test. He is a great grandson of William Thomas Morgan, oldest son of Isaac. So the person that his DNA matched would be the family for Josiah's family. The markers would have been passed down from Josiah to Isaac, Henry, etc.......... Then down through the rest of the generations of Morgan men descended from them.
So if my cousin Morgan's DNA matched with this other Morgan's husband who is descended from Matthew Reese Morgan, that would prove our Morgans to be descended from Charlotte Morgan's husband and his family line. If it did not match, then it might match someone else that takes the test, and show us where we fit. I am definitely going to check this out, and give it considerable thought.
I will let you know if and when I decide for sure.

(The below talks about 2 more brothers of Henry A. Morgan that apparently went to Mississippi- Gerald)
I found Andrew Green Morgan, son of Josiah D. & Matilda Morgan on the Mississippi census yesterday. I have traced him from 1870-1930. He was alive in 1930, age 85, a widower, living with his daughter, and 2 grandchildren.
Sometimes he is listed as Andrew G. Morgan, Green Morgan, Green A. Morgan, and A. Green Morgan. I believe he was Andrew Green Morgan, and went by the name of Green. My great grandfather was Columbus Green Morgan, and I had wondered where the Green came from. Now I am wondering if Matilda could have been a Green.........
I am going to send for his death certificate, and hope his mother's maiden name is on it. I have been hoping for this kind of break, and if her name is on it, that will be wonderful!
Andrew G. was first in Choctaw County, Mississippi, in 1870. He was married to Temperance A. (Reedy) born in AL. She was called Tempie, and died sometime after the 1920 census was taken. They had 6 children, 2 died, according to the 1900 census. In 1880 he was in Sumner, Mississippi, then from 1900-1930 Webster, Mississippi.
I found Jackson A. Morgan in Choctaw, Mississippi in 1870, but have yet to find him after that. I will keep trying to locate him, if he was still alive. At that time he was not married. I figured that at least 2 of the brothers had gone together to Mississippi. Maybe I will be able to find him somewhere. He may have decided to move on to another state.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I did send for the death certificate on Andrew Green Morgan. His father was listed as J. D. Green Morgan, and blank for the mother. This leads me to think that Josiah had 3 names (as I have found many times for people, especially years ago.)
