30 Oct 08:  Added Isaac Morgan tree (scanned pages)

6 Jan 08:  My cousin, M.C. Morgan, has given me information about his brother, Doyle Morgan, who was killed in action during the last weeks of WWII.  He sent one of the last pictures of Doyle that was taken while he was home on furlough during the war.  I have put that picture and a citation from a Memorial Day service on a separate page.  Will put the link here ( Doyle ) and on Page 3 of the Morgan Pictures.  Thanks to Jim Heriford, M.C.'s son-in-law for e-mailing me this information.

2 April 07 - Yes, it has been awhile since I changed these pages.  I just got some old pictures from my daughter that Mom had given her.  I scanned in some of them and posted a few on a new page just to keep new stuff separate for awhile.  One of these was mis-labeled on the back as Arnold Lewis and Leland Meeks.  Leland says not right so need someone to identify.  We thought maybe a couple of Uncle Lessley's boys.  Need to get Joe Pat to take a look if we run into him at Turkey Track this June.

Before I start this story, I want to say that all the credit for this information goes to OTHER people in the Morgan clan.  I just pulled it together from all their research and put it here.  The ball started rolling when I did a search on Ancestry.Com's forums and found Janet Crawford with a post.  Here is at least a partial list of the people who furnished info on the Morgans.  First info came from Jan Crawford on 5 May 2002.

Janet Crawford, Dallas, TX, Franklin Morgan's great-granddaughter
Barbara Pearson, Fort Worth, TX, Henrietta Morgan Wortman's granddaughter.
Ruenell Wasson, Purcell, OK, Henrietta Morgan Wortman's granddaughter.
Theresa Dayton, New York state, George W. Morgan's g-g-g-granddaughter.
Robert L. Morgan, Chino, CA, George W. Morgan's great-grandson.
Susan Gatlin, Atlanta, GA, Isaac A. Morgan's g-g-granddaughter.
Glenda McDougal, Greenwood, AR, Henry Morgan's great-granddaughter, my first cousin
Shirley Montoya, Dallas area?, Franklin Morgan granddaughter (indirectly-she researched the Franklin Morgan line and Glenda sent me a copy)
Latest info regarding Jackson A Morgan from Barry and Renee' Turnage of Crowley, TX (Feb '09)

(this info was from 2002.  We now know that Henry was from a large family.  Brothers Isaac, George, and Jackson are pretty much a fact.  Very likely that Andrew Green Morgan is another brother.).

OK, here is the big announcement and some evidence that one of Henry's brothers was named George Washington Morgan and another was Isaac A. Morgan.  This info leads not only to those two brothers but to their parents, Josiah and Matilda Morgan.

I received 3 pages of a printout prepared by Robert L. Morgan of Chino, CA, one of George and Paralee's descendents from Theresa Dayton, of New York state.  She is a descendent of Brady Morgan Morris, one of George W's grandsons.  Much thanks to Theresa and her husband for scanning these pages and putting them on their web site for retrieval.

I have spoken with Robert Morgan by telephone and now via e-mail.  He sent me the picture of George W. Morgan.

He married Paralee Overton, Henry's wife, Mary Overton's sister, in 1857.  They had 10 children.  Part of the time they lived in Tennessee and Arkansas (like Henry and Mary).  Most of their children were born in Arkansas, possibly in the Boston Mountains near where Henry and Mary lived. (just guessing).

Also, note that George named one of his daughters Matilda.  That offers more evidence that Josiah and Matilda Morgan are his parents and makes Susan Gatlin's ancestor, Isaac Morgan, another of Henry's brothers by looking at Josiah and Matilda's census records.

If your browser (Internet Explorer) resizes the image down automatically, you can't read even these large images very well.  Mine did.  I went to Tools, Internet Options, Advanced and scrolled down to "Enable automatic image resizing" under Multimedia, and unchecked that box.  That leaves the page large and you can read it much better.

Now for story of Isaac A. Morgan another of Henry's brothers.  Through a tip from Janet Crawford, another of Henry's descendents through the Franklin Morgan line (actually, Janet is Henry's great-great-granddaughter if I have my "greats" counted correctly), I corresponded with Susan Gatlin of Atlanta, Georgia who is a great-granddaughter of Isaac Morgan.   Susan found Josiah and Matilda Morgan in the 1850 census with children listing Isaac, Henry, and George.  Then in the 1860 census Matilda is listed as head of household.  All this points to them being the correct parents.  Susan has supplied a printed listing of Isaac's descendents which I have started entering into Family Tree Maker.  There is some more info on Isaac in the Henry's Civil War Mystery story.

One more tidbit that may lead to another generation:  Susan Gatlin found a Charlotte Morgan, age 65, as head of household in the 1850 census in DeKalb County, GA.  She had what was apparently a son living with her named "Reese" with his wife and 2 small children.  Could this be the Mother of Josiah and great-grandmother of my grandfather, George Reese Morgan.  Note also that George W. named a child Charlotte.

Here is an image from Family Tree Maker that shows all of Henry's brothers and sisters.
